Clark is building a wall of hay. Well, rebuilding if you want to get technical. It's one of those winter chores that's mindless enough that he actually doesn't mind doing it on a regular basis. It's also the easiest way to make sure they've got plenty to get the cows through until spring, not that they've ever run out.
He's engrossed enough that while he hears someone call his name, it doesn't exactly sink in who it is. Yet.
