Look Ma! We're Engaged

She hasn't slept since the previous night. Normally, this wouldn't really be a problem for the goddess; she's an immortal and technically doesn't need it, but the respite for those few hours really is a blessing.

Eirene has, in fact, been wandering around the state since Clark went to talk to his mother about their engagement, and aside from working out (via a quick computer chat from a library) something they were both happy about involving logistics about said future wedding, she hasn't spoken to him in person for over twelve hours.

It's why she's currently hiking down the long driveway towards the farmhouse, keeping an eye out for Mr Kent's truck, and hoping her boyfriend fiancé is around. "Clark?"

Halfway down said driveway, she'll be joined by her fiancé. "Hey," he grins down at her. "I thought maybe I'd lost you."

[eirenikos]

"Naw, figured I'd give you guys some space. Kansas City isn't too bad, by the way. Reasonably friendly population." She grins right back up at him. "How mad is your father?"

"He'll be fine," Clark assures her. "They're surprised, which I can't blame them for, but once it sinks in, it'll be okay. Honest."

[eirenikos]

"It's still trying to sink in," she admits, scuffing gently at the ground with a bare foot. "I mean, it's so ... mortal, you know. The cake and the dress and the chapel and..." Blue eyes widen. "Oh, gosh, we're really getting married."

Clark grins again and leans down to kiss her forehead. "There's only a cake and a dress if you want one, and a chapel's pretty much out. But yeah, we're getting married. At some point."

[eirenikos]

Eirene looks incredibly relieved. "Really? Because I'd rather wear my formal robes to marry you in, and I'm not fond of wedding cake, we could do favorite dishes or something like that and ... oh, I love you. That's pretty much the sum of everything, you know? How you feel about someone versus all the trappings that come with ceremonial duties ... and I'm babbling."

Facepalm.

"Really. I won't even make you wear shoes," he promises, wrapping his arms around her and tugging her close for a tight hug. "I love you, too, babble and all."

[eirenikos]

She buries her face against his chest, wrapping her arms around him as well for an equally tight hug, because she can use her full strength and he won't bat an eyelash at it. Or, at least, it won't bruise. "If you want the wedding dress, I'll find a nice one, and wear shoes to our wedding. What you want matters to me."

"I always thought I'd want a traditional wedding," he relies thoughtfully, resting his chin on the top of her head. "But now that it's more or less here, I don't really care, so long as it's with you."

[eirenikos]

"We can wait as long as you want, you know. I'll marry you tomorrow or two years from tomorrow. As you just said, as long as I wed you, it does not matter how, or when, or where. I'd brave a Christian church if I had to." She's tilts her head a little to the side, content to stand there and watch some of the chickens cluck past.

[hero_farmboy]

"Not tomorrow, okay? And no churches, so you don't have to worry about that."

He pauses ever so briefly.

"But I should introduce you to someone."

[eirenikos]

"Not tomorrow." She probably shouldn't be so relieved about no churches, but since she's kind of older than that religion, well.

"Who?"

Clark doesn't believe in it anyway. It's kind of hard to when it doesn't include you.

And on that note, "My father. Or at least what I have left of him."

[eirenikos]

Deadpan: "The same father who turned you mortal because you disobeyed him?"

Because she's totally not impressed with Jor-El.

[hero_farmboy]

"He's a part of my life, Eirene," he says with a sigh, by way of giving her a straight answer. "It comes with the package of me."

Beat.

"And you said you liked my package."

[eirenikos]

"I do like your package," she replies immediately, staring up at him. "All of you, the whole package. I know he is, Clark, but he hurt you. I'll meet him, and I'll be civil, but if he asks how I feel about him, I'm not going to lie."

Yeah, she's that adorably clueless about some innuendos.

She is, and it earns her a tiny smile.

"He won't. He'll just say I'm letting my emotions take over and tell me I can't get married, and I'll tell him I make my own decisions and I'm going to marry you whether he likes it or not." He shrugs, grudgingly. "And things will go on as normal. For us."

[eirenikos]

Eirene frowns, her expression ferocious - for her. On anyone else, it'd probably look like a pout. "If he tries anything, Clark, I will protect you. You have my word on that."

Personally, she assumes the remanent of his father will ignore her completely. It is the way with most men of power.

"But it's you I trust."

[hero_farmboy]

"I know you will," he says softly, a thumb stroking gently over her cheek. "I'm not asking you to trust him, or even like him. I just can't bring you into my life completely without you knowing what that includes."

[eirenikos]

"That's fair," she murmurs after a moment, then turns her head to press her lips against Clark's palm. "Then I'll meet him and be civil, for your sake. Work for you?"

He nods. "Yeah, that works for me."

[eirenikos]

"Okay. Just let me know when."

[hero_farmboy]

"Not tomorrow," Clark jokes, leaning down again but this time to nuzzle her nose with his. "But soon."

[eirenikos]

"My man of not-tomorrow," she quips, shifting slightly to plant a kiss on his nose before resuming the nuzzling. "I love you, Clark Kent. And I'm going to take your name."

Pause.

"Just so you know that."

There's another smile he can't help. "Eirene Kent."

Beat.

"Eirene-El." He wrinkles his nose just a little. "Eirene Kent sounds better." Not that he doesn't like his other name, but still.

[eirenikos]

"It does, but I will take both if your custom dictates it. This wedding is about you too. I am hoping that you won't mind if mother records you in the sagas as Clark, husband of Eirene...?"

Ninja!kiss.

[hero_farmboy]

Clark frowns slightly. "I don't really know what my custom dictates. I should maybe ask Kara about that."

Sneaky!kiss right back.

"I don't mind."

[eirenikos]

"I'm not even sure she'll bring it up, really, just going by past experience with other family members. And don't worry about the customs. We can make up our own, if we want."
