Hide and Seek with hero_farmboy

Eirene knows that Clark can find her pretty much anywhere on the planet, so she doesn't try to conceal herself. The whole point is making a game out of it and having fun. After a few seconds of debating, she chooses a spot near Galveston, Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico. It's warm, the beach is deserted, and the sky above is riddled with stars.

She waits there, on a blanket, counting down the second minute. He's got three to go.

"Does it hurt?" It's mostly concern, but there's some genuine curiosity in his tone as well. Clark would notice her expression, but he can't quite tear his eyes away from the spot that just pushed back at him.

"No. It's like a small tap." Horribly inadequate description, she knows, but she's too distracted by the feel of her daughter moving around inside of her.

"She's stirring again."

His hand remains glued to her abdomen, so he can feel, and nods in agreement. "That can't be comfortable." What, exactly is anyone's guess. Could be how Eirene feels, could be how Zoe feels, or it could just be the idea that there's an entire little person in there.

An entire little person that's related to Clark, who will grow up to date boys and be adorable and get into trouble at the drop of a hat if she's anything like her mother. Eirene suspects she will be, a little. "Oh, I expect it'll get even more so the bigger she gets."

The books say the last few months are the worst, which means that June, July and early August will be ... interesting.

Related to Clark, yes. Grow up to be adorable and get into trouble like her mother, yes. Date boys? Not on Clark's watch.

"It's weird. I've seen so many cows pregnant and watched them give birth over the years, but it never really hit me exactly what goes on until ... this." He prods her stomach gently. "Think it's a foot or a hand?"

Good luck with that no dating thing, Clark. Your daughter is descended from Titans.

"I have no idea." Eirene glances down to where his hand hovers, placing hers on top of it, and concentrates briefly. Ordinarily, she would be able to sense everything about her daughter, but those crafty Kryptonian genes are still being sneaky. "Foot probably. I think she's kicking again."

Future Miss Football Player.

Not until she's fifty, he swears.

"I'll have to get her a little football," he decides. Not that he wasn't going to eventually, but sooner rather than later can't hurt. "Strong legs are good for running, too."

"Good idea." Pause. "Wait. American or European football?" Because there's a small difference between thet wo.

Oh, Eirene. Does the crestfallen look on Clark's face answer that for you?

Yes, yes it does. And she can't help but crack up after leaning over to press a kiss against her husband's pouting mouth. "I couldn't resist, Clark. Really. The opportunity was just sitting there. Waiting."

There is frowning. And pouting.

And then a very serious, "Football isn't something we joke about, you know."

The pout will just get kissed again. And again.

"I know how important it is to you." She's trying for a serious expression, because of the whole 'Clark is a football fanatic' thing. "And you know I don't tease you about it." Usually.

"But, honey, I had to."

Those kisses will start to make up for it.

"You love torturing me." He's so hard done by, he is.

Oh, he is. Totally. Eirene is so mean to him, making sure he's got a smile on his face every night, and learning to cook, and poking fun at his favorite sport.

Oh, hey. She's just going to scoot a little closer. "Mom told me to always take pride in my accomplishments," Eirene murmurs, drawing her tongue across his bottom lip.

"She's a wise woman," Clark agrees, sliding his hand from her stomach around to settle at the small of her back.

"She is." She marvels, once again, how big his hands are before trailing her mouth away from his and towards an ear.
