[livejournal.com profile] hero_farmboy and [livejournal.com profile] father_sky mentioned with permission. Everyone else was borrowed without, and the mun hopes they don't kill her.

The wedding ceremony goes off without a hitch.

Aside from the bride's problem with wearing shoes, the grandfather of the bride shooting looks at the groom every few minutes, the mother of the groom excusing herself several times to deal with morning sickness, and the bride's mother stepping in at the last minute to perform matron of honor duties when the maid of honor is called away to deal with an emergency in the Middle East.

In spite of all that, however, Eirene still manages to make it down the short aisle on her grandfather's arm, wearing Martha Kent's wedding dress (and low heels), beaming despite best intentions to remain serene, and she knows the moment she sees Clark that the rest of her life will be fine, because he'll be at her side. Once Ouranos deigns to hand her over, with another one of his famous 'take care of her or I'll end you' looks to his new grandson-in-law.

The vows themselves are short, a simple 'I promise to be faithful, to love you through good or ill, and place your needs above mine' from both parties before the civil minister gestures for the best man (or, in this case, Chloe) to hand over the rings, and Eirene's fingers tremble just briefly when she slides Clark's onto his finger - half expecting claxons to start shrieking at the gravity of the situation.

Eirene doesn't quite process the 'you may now kiss the bride', but apparently Clark does, because suddenly her feet are dangling in the air and his mouth is planting an extremely proprietary kiss on hers. They're now married. She belongs to him, he to her, forever. There are people talking at her, but the goddess can't quite make out the words, being somewhat dazed, though she smiles and hugs everyone who appears in front of her (including one of the hotel staff who wandered a little too close).

So now the wedding party is ensconsed at the restaurant inside their chosen hotel, laughing, chatting, occasionally trying to get the attention of a passing waiter and making merry in general. Tomorrow everyone will return to Kansas, but for the near future the only thing on their minds (hopefully) is having fun.

[ooc notes: Wedding party pups are Ouranos, Themis, Martha, Clark, Eirene, Chloe(s) and Kara. Anyone else may tag in and say hello as well, thread hopping is encouraged, and the post will remain active for one week. Please try not to kill my email :) Any questions, ping Clark-mun at aim Cywyll.]

There are other things on Clark's mind, but none of them are fit for mixed company, or public discussion.

At some point during dinner, when it seems neither of them are occupied in conversation for the first time since the ceremony, he reaches over and takes his new bride's hand. "How are you doing, Mrs. Kent?"

It takes almost a minute, even with the hand holding, for Eirene to realize that he's talking to her, being that 'Mrs Kent' has always been Martha. Once she does, however, trying to ignore the sudden blush, Clark's bride unabashedly beams at him. "Perfectly, Mr. Kent. How are you?"

Great Clark, you made your wife blush even more. Or so says the dark pink hue of her cheeks. Just add in the besotted expression on her face, and the narration think he's got Eirene wrapped around his little finger. "At least a few months," she agrees, then leans over to plant a kiss against his cheek.

That works both ways, the wrapping around little fingers. Not to mention he has a besotted expression to match.

"I love you, you know."

And Eirene's fingers are pretty small, like the rest of her. "I do." You know, that sounds a little familiar. Like something she said about an hour ago.

Ding ding ding, goes Ouran's fork on a glass as he clears his throat.

Yes, that's right. Grandpa has a few words he'd like to say.

Once he has (mostly) everyone's attention: "..."

Words. He had them, now he doesn't.

"... Eirene, Clark, you have my blessing, now and always. May the rays of love forever shine down upon you and... congratulations!"

Ouranos: not the most eloquent of gods. (At least he stopped shooting Clark glares of doom?)

He quickly sits back down, taking a big gulp from the wine glass in front of him.

Eirene looks rather surprised, though it isn't readily apparent if it's at the toast or the fact that Ouranos actually gave one. He does get a beamy smile from her direction, though.

"Thank you. We're honored, Grandpa."

"You're welcome, dear," he says, to Eirene.

Then he slowly looks to Clark. He's not trying to look threatening, anymore — but he does look serious.

"I'll be watching you, boy."

Saying something like 'he's not really serious' would quell some of Clark's fears, no doubt, but it would be an untruth. So Eirene simply squeezes his hand and continues beaming at Ouranos.

"Did you want anything else to drink or eat, Grandfather?"

Themis looks smug. Themis is smug. One of her daughters is now married, happily so, and she'll be a grandmother at some point in the new year. Really, it's all she can do to remain seated, not giving in to an urge to dance around on the table in a fit of joy.

At some point, she settles next to Clark, smiles serenely at her daughter, but addresses her new son-in-law instead,"You've made her very happy."

Drake only stops by for a few minutes - he doesn't want to intrude on a family scene.

Carefully, he sets a beautiful flowering plant on the gift table, with a note (written by Becky) that reads:

Dear Clark and Lady Eirene,

This is a flower of Camelot. It will bloom in the house where love grows. Appreciate its petals in times of strength, and heed the gentle warnings within its leaves.

I hope that it will always bloom for you.

Any gift made by nature will win lots of brownie points with the lesser goddess of Spring. Therefore, Eirene makes a point to intercept Drake before he can get away.

"It's beautiful, thank you. I'm deeply honored that you would part with such a holy flower."

There might even be hugging involved.

He bows to her, smiling.

Martha would be drinking right now, if only to keep from crying uncontrollably, but that option isn't available to her. So she hides in the bathroom for awhile until she convinces the tears to leave her alone (ah, hormones), then emerges, hoping no one will notice.

A glass of apple cider is in order now, and a chair in a remote corner of the restaurant where she can watch the crowd. And possibly some tissues.

There's really no hiding. Sorry, Martha. It might take him a few minutes to get from his place at the head table to where his mother has stowed herself away, but Clark manages, crouching down beside her knees.

"How are you holding up?"

She sniffles reluctantly, then puts on a smile. "Oh, fine. The ceremony was lovely, and I..." When she looks directly at him, at that face, the face of a child and now the face of a groom, the tears involuntarily well up in her eyes once more, her lip quivering. "...I'm so glad to have been here, and..."

That's really all she can get out at the moment.

That's okay. He'd been kind of expecting this, what with her own pregnancy and the fact that her only son just got married. Moms do this sort of thing.

Clark doesn't say anything right away, just wraps his arms around her and lets her sniffle against his shoulder for as long as she likes. "I'm glad you're here, mom. I couldn't have done this without you."

She doubts that very much, but it's still nice to hear.

Hugging him back tightly, she does sniffle for a while, hoping those pesky tears will at last be satisfied. When she pulls back, she's smiling at him adoringly despite tear-stained cheeks. "Look at you, all grown up, a married man, a father-to-be. I swear, it was just days ago you were running around shouting 'surprise!' every single time you walked into a room. And now..."

Damn tears.
