[livejournal.com profile] hero_farmboy and [livejournal.com profile] father_sky mentioned with permission. Everyone else was borrowed without, and the mun hopes they don't kill her.

The wedding ceremony goes off without a hitch.

Aside from the bride's problem with wearing shoes, the grandfather of the bride shooting looks at the groom every few minutes, the mother of the groom excusing herself several times to deal with morning sickness, and the bride's mother stepping in at the last minute to perform matron of honor duties when the maid of honor is called away to deal with an emergency in the Middle East.

In spite of all that, however, Eirene still manages to make it down the short aisle on her grandfather's arm, wearing Martha Kent's wedding dress (and low heels), beaming despite best intentions to remain serene, and she knows the moment she sees Clark that the rest of her life will be fine, because he'll be at her side. Once Ouranos deigns to hand her over, with another one of his famous 'take care of her or I'll end you' looks to his new grandson-in-law.

The vows themselves are short, a simple 'I promise to be faithful, to love you through good or ill, and place your needs above mine' from both parties before the civil minister gestures for the best man (or, in this case, Chloe) to hand over the rings, and Eirene's fingers tremble just briefly when she slides Clark's onto his finger - half expecting claxons to start shrieking at the gravity of the situation.

Eirene doesn't quite process the 'you may now kiss the bride', but apparently Clark does, because suddenly her feet are dangling in the air and his mouth is planting an extremely proprietary kiss on hers. They're now married. She belongs to him, he to her, forever. There are people talking at her, but the goddess can't quite make out the words, being somewhat dazed, though she smiles and hugs everyone who appears in front of her (including one of the hotel staff who wandered a little too close).

So now the wedding party is ensconsed at the restaurant inside their chosen hotel, laughing, chatting, occasionally trying to get the attention of a passing waiter and making merry in general. Tomorrow everyone will return to Kansas, but for the near future the only thing on their minds (hopefully) is having fun.

[ooc notes: Wedding party pups are Ouranos, Themis, Martha, Clark, Eirene, Chloe(s) and Kara. Anyone else may tag in and say hello as well, thread hopping is encouraged, and the post will remain active for one week. Please try not to kill my email :) Any questions, ping Clark-mun at aim Cywyll.]

That's okay. He'd been kind of expecting this, what with her own pregnancy and the fact that her only son just got married. Moms do this sort of thing.

Clark doesn't say anything right away, just wraps his arms around her and lets her sniffle against his shoulder for as long as she likes. "I'm glad you're here, mom. I couldn't have done this without you."

She doubts that very much, but it's still nice to hear.

Hugging him back tightly, she does sniffle for a while, hoping those pesky tears will at last be satisfied. When she pulls back, she's smiling at him adoringly despite tear-stained cheeks. "Look at you, all grown up, a married man, a father-to-be. I swear, it was just days ago you were running around shouting 'surprise!' every single time you walked into a room. And now..."

Damn tears.

"And now you're going to have a daughter and a grandchild to make all sorts of new 'aren't they cute' memories with," he tries as a cheer up tactic, giving her a small smile in return. "Though I suppose if you really want I could give it a go again. I bet I'm a lot louder now."

She chuckles softly, wiping the tears from her cheek with the back of her hand. "That's true. You'd probably give me a stroke and heaven only knows what you'd do to your father." She glances over across the room at Eirene. "She looks beautiful in my dress, doesn't she? Well, her dress now. Feels like ages since I wore it, which is...accurate."

"It's your dress," he corrects, emphasizing it in a plural sense. "And when sis here is ready for it, it'll be there for her, too."

"Oh, lord. By that time, the dress will be truly ancient," Martha replies with a laugh. And then, seriously..."I hope it brings you two as much luck as it did us."

"An antique. It might even be in style again, too," he teases.

"I don't see how it couldn't. You and dad are the happiest couple I know. Everything I learned about marriage and commitement, I learned from you."

"Oh, sure." Martha rolls her eyes, laughing.

Now the tears are threatening to return. But she smiles, glancing through the crowd to spot her husband, smiling even brighter. "It isn't easy, Clark. But it's a whole lot easier when you're head over heels in love. That's what being married to your father has taught me. And nearly twenty-six years later, we're happy as clams." A pause. "Which reminds me, our anniversary is in three weeks and I am without gift ideas. But that's not the point. The point is...make sure she lets you win a few rounds, and the couch is not your friend."

He nods, following her gaze. "I think we've got the head over heels in love part down." Her advice elicits a grin. "I'm not sure it's possible to avoid the couch forever, but I'll do my best."

Then he pulls his mother in for another hug. "Thank you."

"True. Your father still finds himself down there from time to time."

She is both surprised and grateful for the hug. "For what?"

"You. Everything." Clark squeezes her a little tighter, but not even remotely enough to hurt her. "I know how lucky I've been and that's mostly due to you."

For Martha, it's always an unadulterated relief when he says things like this to her.

She doesn't have to think twice in hugging him back as just tightly. "Oh, sweetheart. You make it easy." Which, to anyone else, that statement would seem ridiculous given everything he's put her through over the years, albeit unintentionally. But Martha Kent was always partial to challenges, and every time she looks at that face she knows it's been far more than worth it.

"That's what all moms say." At least, that's what he thinks moms say. None of his friends really have their moms around for him to compare.

"Now, you think you're ready to come back and join the rest of us for some dessert?"

"Well, dads say the same thing, so let's not limit it to moms."

She takes a deep breath, looking around at the rest of the wedding party, mingling and enjoying themselves. Mostly her baffled husband, who looks terribly out of place and uncomfortable around "all these Mt. Olympus types," as he's taken to calling them. "Well. Someone's got to save your father."
